Great read! When I was an university student, I lived in a fairly touristic city. I remember one time I got stuck behind a group of tourists and their guide. The street was too narrow for me to walk past them…and I was running late to one of my lectures! I’d say locals are used to tourists crowding their cities and for the most part, it is not a problem. However there are some instances when it could be a bit annoying (I’m leaving out of the discussion the bigger problems related to mass tourism, like rent prices for locals). I am not blaming tourists themselves, I understand that people want to enjoy their summer holidays in beautiful places like Italy. Though I do think that this is something that should be regulated by Italian authorities. Mass tourism is not sustainable for locals and not enjoyable for tourists. I also hate to see Italian masterpieces “cheapened” in their value and at same time, used to rip off foreigners. I am happy you got to have some pleasant experiences in smaller Italian museums!
